Major boom likely in Qatar hotel sector owing to 2022 FIFA World Cup

The entire world will begin focussing on Qatar in another ten years, as Qatar gets ready to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. With just 10 years left to get ready, Qatar and Doha are seeing increased influx of guests.

A new airport is likely to be unveiled this year, while Qatar Airways will expand its service further into the country.

However, the noteworthy aspect is the development of hotels in Doha city. There is considerable increase seen, particularly considering the fact that until in the recent past, Qatar had just a single luxury hotel.

Nearly USD100bn worth infrastructure projects are due for completion prior to 2022. This also includes 77 new hotels and 42 hotel apartments in Qatar. This will add 21,107 new rooms into the hospitality market in Qatar. Last year alone, there were 6369 new hotel rooms in Qatar, contributed by 25 hotels and 10 hotel apartments that entered the market.

Among the recent openings likely in the hotel sector in Qatar are the St. Regis Doha, due for opening in February, eight new properties by Rotana, an IHG Crowne Plaza later in the year, three new Marriott properties, three Hiltons properties, the forthcoming Marsa Malaz Hotel Kempinski, and a Premier Inn in Doha.
