Minister unveils five-year plan to develop Dukhan City

The Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman and Managing Director of Qatar Petroleum (QP), H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada has announced a five-year plan to develop Dukhan City.

Following unveiling of a series of development projects, the foundation stones are being laid for several proposed projects in the city. The work on the project will begin next year, QP told the media.

Dukhan has already been transformed from being an industrial area, into an industrial-cum-residential city, drawing several large Qataris to the city. The area has one of the best residential units, and has emerged as the best place for Qatari families to live in.

Earlier, the Minister had also unveiled several other facilities at QP Administration Area, and QP Support Facilities Area, including Dukhan Learning Centre and Field Development Geology Lab and core store. Dr. Al Sada also laid Foundation stones for Dukhan Community Centre and the packages I and II of the VIII phase of Dukhan Housing Project.

The Geology lab development is planned in two separate phases. The first involves preserving ancient memories of the city, wherein Qatar’s first oil well was developed in 1938. The artifacts linked to ancient Dukhan that lie scattered across the country, will be brought under a single roof in the lab. The second phase of the lab will be designed in a manner so as to benefit the geology students.

Dukhan is being developed continuously ever-since the first oil well was developed in the area for more than 70 years ago. There were nearlyQR3bn worth development projects launched in 2003 that are now nearing completion. The first phase is already complete, while the second phase is now 95percent complete.
