First-ever zipline launched at Splash Water Park

The first-ever zip-line in the country has been officially launched yesterday at Splash Water Park, at the Katara beach along the south-eastern side of Cultural Village.

Ziplines have recently gained popularity as a major attraction in resorts across the world. They are an adventure ride, wherein the user zips down from the top of an inclined cable, attached to a moving pulley.

The user can avail this exhilarating ride of 150m zipline from 3pm to midnight daily for next two months, said Hatim Aboussid, Business Development and Events Manager, Alaqat, the organizers of the water park.

The equipment is provided by a Philippine-based company and a team of experts from the Philippines will be present at the park during the entire duration, Aboussid said.

The zipline will be the first-ever in the country, and guests can avail the ride by paying QR100. The ride gives them a feel of adventure and an opportunity for them to face fear of heights.

The ride is one of the 60 games and rides available at the temporary water park, some of which are new in Doha. It is the first water park in Doha with inflatable water rides, located in a fine environment for the whole family, particularly this season.

The water section is filled with fresh activities, many of which are a first time in the country, including sliders, jumpers, and water blobs, pointed out Aboussid.

About 30 water rides and activities, apart from another 30 games and activities, are all scattered across the 7000sqm area. Except for the zipline, other rides and activities can be used by guests for a one day pass of QR100.

After 7pm daily, there are a host of activities for all, including kidsí competitions and other live performances. More surprises are on way for guests, in addition to other attractions for all. The main aim is to make the park a getaway for families in Doha, a place where they can go on a regular basis.

The park is open daily from 3pm until midnight from today for next two months. Although the zipline will last for two months, park will look into ways to expand it and make it last a bit longer for benefit of the public, and probably consider organizing it twice a year, he said.

The park is operated by Alaqat in partnership with Katara and Qatar Tourism Authority. This is the first of its kind experience on the beach, with new facilities provided by the company, which is an added value to Katara, said Eng. Ahmad Abdulrahman Al Sayed, Deputy General Manager for Operations, Katara said after launch.

The park has done risk assessment tests to ensure safety and security of facilities, which is paramount, as this is a place for families to take care of. Al Sayed hopes that the park would be a vehicle to draw more visitors to Katara, particularly this Eid Al Adha.

Katara is among the prime locations in Qatar which attracts visitors and tourists during Eid. Katara is likely to draw about 70,000 to 1,000,000 visitors this Eid.
