Population in Qatar surpasses 2.6 million last month

The population in Qatar crossed 2.6million at the end of last month. Last year, the population recorded during the same period was 2.5million, with an annual increase by 5.2 percent, as per monthly data released by the Ministry of Development, Planning and Statistics.

The monthly statistics for March spanning a wide range of areas, show an increase in the number of passenger arrivals and departures at the Doha International Airport, new registered vehicles, traffic violations and road accidents when compared on yearly basis and month-on-month basis.

The passenger movement at Hamad International Airport recorded an increase from last year, with total of 1,605,000 arrivals in March, in comparison to same period last year, while departures recorded an annual increase by 4.9 percent. But, in comparison to February this year, the arrivals to Doha in March dipped by 2.1 percent. But, the departures from Doha increased by 16.6 percent, touching 439,000 passengers.

Total of 2,072 babies were born in Qatar in March, with 184 deaths being registered, 370 marriage contracts were agreed upon, and 104 divorce declarations, during the same period were recorded.

In March, 24.5 percent increased electricity consumption was recorded, while water consumption decreased by 1.24 percent, with total value of 44,775,000m3.
The report also showed 40.1 percent growth in building permits in March, in comparison to previous month with 667 permits that were issued. Doha, Al Rayyan and Ak-Dha’ayen municipalities recorded the increase.
