New eVisa service boosts tourist arrivals

The Ministry of Interior (MOI), Qatar Airways and Qatar Tourism Authority have launched an e-visa platform through which visitors to Qatar can directly apply for tourist visas.

Tourist visa applications can be now completed on the e-visa platform, which is now in its pilot phase, www.qatarvisaservice.com.

This new service is aimed at easing visitor access to Qatar, and also offers an efficient and transparent visa application system, with standardised fees. Earlier, applicants for tourist visas had to submit their applications through accredited Qatar-based entities like hotels and tour operators.

However, now, with the launch of e-visa, travellers can directly apply and track the status of their application online.

Tourist visas will cost $42, including the service charge, with payments made online using Visa or MasterCard. When applying online, the applicants will have to include passport scans, personal photographs, scan of the passenger airline ticket, and the address in which they would stay while in Qatar.

Passengers who travel on Qatar Airways will also have the convenience of having their ticket validated automatically, as the visa service would be linked to airlines booking platform. Once all the documents of the applicant have been received, response can be expected within 48 hours. And when the application is accepted, the applicant will receive an e-visa by email.

The launch of this online visa service is aimed at boosting visitor arrivals. Qatar had introduce a new free transit visa service in November 2016, and this visa structure permits passenger a minimum transit time of five hours in Hamad International Airport, to stay in Qatar for up to 96 hours.

The Qatar Tourism Authority’s Chief Tourism Development Officer, Hassan al-Ibrahim recalled that the new transit visa scheme, introduced last November resulted in 53 percent increase in visitor stopovers in Qatar in March 2017, in comparison to same period last year. He said that Qatar looks forward to welcoming more visitors, given, this convenient online visa service.

Applying for this new online tourist visa service is a three-step process:

Step 1 – log on to www.qatarvisaservice.com and register and fill in the application form.

Step 2 – Upload required documents and make a payment through Visa or Mastercard debit or credit card.

Step 3 – Receive updates and e-visa via email or log back on to track status online.
