Qatar records increased tourist arrivals, despite restrictions

The first-half of this year has seen increased tourist numbers in Qatar, with further increase expected in the coming period, particularly, after Qatar announced exemption of visa for nationals of 80 countries to enter Qatar.

Despite the restrictions that were imposed on Qatar since 5th June, the tourism movement saw an increase in number of tourists, which was confirmed based on occupancy rates in hotels, especially during Eid al Fitr holidays, when the occupancy rate was 95 percent.

The Qatar Tourism Authority is working on various initiatives and promotional campaigns to find new markets to draw tourists and diversify the tourism product to ensure the prosperity of Qatar’s tourism sector, which has not been affected by the restriction.

The Chief of QTA’s Tourism Development Sector, Hassan Al Ibrahim, in a statement said that there are several measures taken by the Authority to its 2030 tourism strategy and to support the tourism sector in Qatar, the most recent being visa-free entry to Qatar for nationals from 80 countries.  According to Al Ibrahim, this openness initiative towards 80 countries will leave a positive impact on incoming tourist numbers and will help in faster growth of tourism sector.

He further emphasized that there was a growth in tourist numbers during first half of the year, which is a good sign which the authority intends to launch.

The initiatives launched by QTA have diversified to include entertainment for benefits of nationals and residents, draw in tourists to Qatar and contribute towards advancement of the total economy.

Even the Qatar Summer Festival 2017 would have started on 25th June and will continue until September. With participation of 77 hotels, under title ‘Colour your summer’, which helps boost tourism sector and draw tourists despite siege imposed.
Qatar has seen increased tourist arrivals from Oman and Kuwait, with tourists taking advantage of the massive offers and discounts provided by hotels during that period, which emphasizes the strength of hospital sector in Qatar.

For the welfare of tourists, QTA has also tied-up with several entities to enable tourists to benefit from the offers of accommodation offered by the luxury hospitality sector in the State of Qatar.
