Hamad Port officially unveiled in Doha

HH the Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, unveiled Hamad Port yesterday, which is due to rake in about QR2.5bn in direct and indirect investments when fully functional.

The ceremony included placement of Hamad Portís logo on the project model by the Emir, and marking the official opening of the 28.5 sq km port, which has the capacity to hold more than 7.5mn containers annually on completion of its construction phases.

The Emir also spoke to other ministers and senior officials from Oman, Morocco, Italy, France, Iran, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan and Kuwait, who attended the inauguration ceremony held in Doha. They also discussed various issues of mutual interest.

The Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani also met with various dignitaries during the official opening of the port, and discussed regarding the development and promoting bilateral ties in various sectors.
The Minister of Transport and Communication, Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti mentioned that the port is the major element of Qatar National Vision 2030, which will see Qatar grow to be an attractive economic destination.

Hamad Port reflects this most vividly, as it plays a vital role in providing direct marine shipping routes with key regional and world seaports within short time, thereby helping to secure goods, supplies and all necessities for all vital projects, al-Sulaiti said.

Hamad Port will also help by contributing improved trade ties between Qatar and other global markets. He said the port will create job opportunities for the youth, improve living standards and Qatarís competitiveness by transforming it into a regional business center.

The minister further noted that construction of Hamad Port was completed ahead of schedule and was below the allocated budget.

Al-Sulaiti said that the magnificent construction would always be remembered in history as a sign of gratitude from this dignified nation to HH the Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani. This giant gateway carries the name of HH the Father Emir, and this in the world memory, would be synonymous with the maker of miracles in this land.

All this would not have been possible without the guiding directives and encouragement from HH the Emir and the active support from HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani. Such great support has had a great impact in energising our drive and improving the momentum for more work and dedication.
