Qatar simplifies residency procedures of expat workers

Qatar has made the residency procedures easy for expat workers by allowing them to complete the procedures at their home counties.

Qatari Interior Ministry, together with a Singapore-based Company has signed a new deal that allows completing all Qatari residency procedures of expat workers in their home countries.

The first phase of the project covers eight countries including Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Philippines, Indonesia and Tunisia, where workers constitute 80 percent of the total workforce in Qatar.

Based on the deal, the expats will be allowed to complete their medical check-up, record bio-metric data and fingerprint, sigh work contracts in their home countries before coming to Qatar.

This landmark initiative helps in decreasing the cases of rejection of expat workers on account of their failing medical tests.

Early last month, Qatar had approved a draft bill for establishment of a support fund for its two million strong foreign work force. Last year, the Qatari government also introduced a new labour law aimed at making it easier for migrant workers to change jobs and leave the country.
