Shop Qatar to begin from 7th January 2018

The second edition of Shop Qatar will begin from 7th January and will conclude on 7th February 2018 with a series of nation-wide promotions, discounts, entertainment and public celebrations, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC), together with Qatar Tourism Authority, announced.

With its wide variety of shopping offers, fashion shows, raffle draws, pop-up sows and cultural performances, the official month-long shopping festival of Qatar offers something for everyone to enjoy.

The retail sector has seen huge growth, since its inaugural edition of Shop Qatar. This is the second edition, which sheds spotlight on complete range of Qatar’s attractive shopping offerings from traditional products to international brands and luxury goods, said Noor al-Thani, the Project Manager of QTA Shop Qatar.

Registration is now open for retailers across the country to participate in the festival, said QTA and MEC. In fact, MEC will grant exceptions for retailers who are exceeding the two sales licenses permitted within a year. Those interested can visit the MEC webpage http://bit.ly/shopqatar, where they can issue fresh discount and promotion licenses and update or cancel the existing ones.

The discounts include sales, festival sales, clearance sales, and special offers including raffle draws, and scratch-and-win contests. MEC reminds all retailers to obtain design approvals for use of ‘Shop with Confidence’ logo in all advertisements for discounts and promotions.

The customers’ copies of shopping receipts should also bear the logo to ensure that retailer’s activities are in accordance with the law and regulations put forth by MEC.
The ‘Shop with Confidence’ logo artwork can be found on http://bit.ly/shopqatar2.
The first edition of ‘Shop Qatar’ concluded on Feb’17 with 60 shoppers having won raffle draws for cash prizes in the range QR10,000 to QR1million. The festival saw a 16.8 percent growth in visitor arrivals, in comparison to same period in 2016.
The direct impact of inbound tourism on the GDP was estimated at QR1.06bn, a major increase from similar estimates during previous festivals.

The annual shopping festival was introduced by QTA, following considerable growth in Qatar’s retail sector, which is matched by its strong contribution to tourism spending.
