Barwa to launch QR4bn housing project accommodating 50,000 workers
Barwa Real Estate Company has announced the launch of a housing project, worth QR4bn in Industrial Area with a capacity to accommodate about 50,000 labourers.
The first phase of the project, worth QR500mn, will also include sufficient parking space for more than 4000 trucks. The first phase is likely to be ready by May.
The construction of the entire project, with other structures in the second phase, will be complete towards 2010.
The accommodation will be leased out to companies, and there will be 64 buildings with four floors and 130 rooms. The buildings will be split into four groups of 16 blocks each, and can accommodate 49,920 people. Each cluster will have its own landscaping and facilities, and will be in line with international standards.
About 16,000 square meters of land is kept aside for a commercial plaza, with 48 service retail outlets, and communal areas. Each cluster will include a football court, a mosque, a volleyball and basketball court and public restrooms.
Residents will also get to enjoy other basic amenities of comfort, such as the eight dining halls with multi-cuisine menus served thrice a day, apart from laundry collection service through a central collection system, so that they will be left with ample time for leisure.
Speaking to the media, the Barwa Real Estate Company Chairman, Ghanim bin Saad Al Saad, said that the project was part of Qatar’s comprehensive development plans prioritizing the well-being of individuals.
Al Saad said “Our main objective behind this project is to fulfill the rights of labourers’ and to improve their health and living standards.”
The CEO of Barwa Al Baraha, Yousef Fakhroo, said that a maximum of six workers can share a room, with each worker being provided a space of 4.25 square meters.
He said the accommodation would strictly adhere to the standards by Municipality and National Human Rights Commission. He confirmed that although the rents are yet to be fixed, they would be reasonable.
