Qatar to set regulations for environment-friendly buildings
Qatar plans to regulate standards and specifications for construction of environment-friendly buildings and projects, revealed a senior official.
The Director-General of Urban Planning and Development Authority (UPDA), Ali Abdullah al-Abdullah said -We are planning to set standards and regulations for all buildings and projects to be constructed in Qatar, so that a uniform regulation could be followed for the entire country.
Speaking during the announcement of UPDA’s support to the fourth Regional Conference on Gulf Protection, likely to be held on April 24th, he said, Energy City Qatar is the main sponsor for the event, with ‘Buildings Design Supporting Environment,” as the main theme.
Making of a green building requires changes to be incorporated in shading, designs, more efficient equipment, specific landscaping amongst others, which could result in an increase in cost of building by 5% to 7%. But on the other hand, this will save energy up to 30%.
The President of Institute of Directors, Sheikh Jassim bin Ahmed bin Khalifa al-Thani, the organizer of the conference, said that the Gulf region, in particular, is facing certain problems due to unprecedented construction and industrial development and added that organizing the annual event was a genuine responsibility towards the environment.
