Aspire Academy -the busiest indoor sports facility in the world
The largest indoor sports facility in the world, Aspire Academy, is also one of the more talked about sports arena in the world.
The Sports Dome at the Aspire Academy, with its non-stop activities every day beginning last January, has turned out to be one of the most active sporting facilities the world.
Local and international competitions, training programmes, local community activities have all ensured that the iconic Dome continues to remain the most dynamic indoor sports facility.
With state-of-the-art science labs, fitness halls, indoor football pitch, indoor 200m athletic track, Olympic-sized swimming and diving pool, two multipurpose sports hall, gymnastics hall, combat sports area, table tennis hall, five-a-side football hall, two squash courts, fencing area, and a physiotherapy/medical center.
Ever-since the December 2006 Asian Games, the Dome has hosted more than 56 distinct regional, international and local events, including the Fencing Grand Prix Jan 2006-07, the Liebherr Qatar Open 2007, Table Tennis Championship, AFC-QFA-Aspire Festivals of Football, the Doha Artistic World Cup Series (March), 3rd Asian Indoor Athletics Championships (February) and a major International Sports Science Conference in January this year.
It has also served as venue for many national events such as the IAAF Kids Athletic Event in 2006 and 2007, and the QOC Schools Olympic Day.
The Sports Director at Aspire, Dr. Andreas Bleicher, said “Aspire has developed as a vital community facility, providing an important platform for a host of community activities and specialist health programmes, which very few sports stadia in the world can offer.”
