Qatar becomes first Arab country to issue hi-tech forgery-proof e-passports
Qatar has become the first Arab country to issue the hi-tech forgery-proof e-passports, which are currently being issued by the Interior Ministry in Qatar.
Speaking during a press conference, the Director of the Department, Col. Abdullah Saad al-Buainain, revealed that the distribution of e-passport has commenced, and it forms a part of the Ministry strategy to adopt such hi-tech programmes of security.
The new passport is protected against any forgery, illegal reading or counterfeiting of data. The passport carries several visible and invisible signs in it, which protects against forgery. The electronic chip is also secured against any illegal reading, and is digitally protected.
Speaking about the benefits of e-passport, al-Buainain said, the new security measures in the Qatari passport will improve the confidence in the document and will help Qataris during their application for visas in other foreign countries.
The new passport will be the same in size and shape as the old passport, except that a logo will be included in the cover, and an electronic chip with biometric data will be placed inside the passport.
About 700 new e-passports have already been issued to Qataris last week.
