New luxury hotel rooms likely in Qatar within next four years
According to a study by QNB Economics and Research Department, shortage of luxury hotel rooms in the country will ease considerably towards the year 2012.
With about 9638 new rooms in four and five star categories would enter the Qatar market within next four years. Rapid economic expansion has led to considerable increase in premium rooms in the country.
Mega projects are being taken up in civil aviation, infrastructure, energy and sports and surface transport sectors, which have resulted in an influx of personnel to Qatar, besides frequent visits by high-level officials and executives from various countries.
Another reason for the luxury rooms being occupied at a considerable pace, is due to Doha being a major regional center for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE).
According to industrial sources, the hotel occupancy rate in Qatar has been ‘phenomenally good’ during the past four to five years.
The Doha Asian Games 2006 has given a shot in the arm for hospitality industry, with several new hotels coming up, while a few existing ones are getting spruced up to officials, host players and guests for the prestigious sporting event.
An industry expert has revealed that the hospitality sector in Qatar will enjoy growth rates that only hoteliers in other parts of the world could otherwise dream about.
“The Middle East is a fast developing market, but surveys reveal the region is continuing to grow at an unparalleled pace, with bucking negative economic trends in other parts of the world,” says Maggie Moore, Exhibition Director of The Hotel Show 2008, Dubai.
In its latest review, QNB said several four and five star hotels are likely to come up in the country by 2012, few of which are Four Seasons (The Pearl Qatar) – 250 rooms, Marriott Courtyard (204 rooms), Marriott Renaissance Hotel (249 rooms), Holiday Hotel Villa & Residence (358 rooms), Shangri La (271 rooms), Hilton (310 rooms), Grand Hyatt (249 rooms), Rotana (287 rooms), Dubai Towers (235 rooms), Four Points Hotel (250 rooms) Merweb Grand City Center (256 rooms), Barwa Financial District Hotel (355 rooms), Qatar Silouette (320 rooms), Retaj Hotel (218 rooms), Al Biddah Hotel (496 rooms), Merweb Classic Hotel (236 rooms), St. Regis (322 rooms), Barwa Al Rayyan Hotel (250 rooms), Barwa Al Khor Hotel (400 rooms), Abdulwahab Tower (488 rooms), Grand Saray (240 rooms) and others.
