Stringent measures imposed on short-term visitors who disobey visa rules
The British government has imposed stringent rules on family members of UK residents who are on a short-term visit from abroad, but, do not abide by the rules. These measures have been introduced as a part of the new visa regulation by the government, in view of short term visitors to the country.
According to the proposed changes, the visitors will have to hold a license for visiting the sponsor family members. It will be the duty of the sponsors thereafter to ensure that their visitors leave the place before the expiry of their visas, failing which, they will have to face a ban on bringing in anybody else, apart from a penalty of £5,000 or a jail sentence, revealed the British embassy in its statement.
The new visa regulation is apart from the new Point Based System that the government introduced during the first quarter of this year. The proposals include establishing the maximum duration for visitors as six months, introducing two new business visas for entertainers and sports people.
Among the other proposals in pipeline are, the appeal system may be established for those coming under the family route, by introducing new short-term, low-cost group travel visas so as to boost British tourism, apart from separate visas for visitors to the UK coming in to participate in cultural events like the Edinburgh Festival.
The Border and Immigration Minister, Liam Byrne said that plans are on to introduce Australian-style points system for selective migration, as it is important to tighten visit visas at the same time.
“We wish that UK remains attractive for businesses and visitors alike. But we also need to offer a system of border security, which is among the most secure in the world,” he added.
