Qatari Flag flies high at Beijing Olympic Village
The Qatari Olympic team yesterday officially hoisted their state flag at the Beijing Olympic Village yesterday.
The Ceremony saw the participation of HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the Chairman of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), HE Sheikh Saud bin Ali al-Thani, the Deputy Chairman of QOC, HE Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, the QOC Secretary general and Abdulrahman Abdullah al-Muftah, Qatar ambassador to China.
Qatar is fielding its biggest Olympic contingent in Beijing comprising 23 athletes, competing in various sporting events such as athletics, archery, shooting, fencing, taekwondo, swimming, and weightlifting.
Speaking to the media, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad emphasized that Qatar will continue its efforts to host the Olympic Games, to realize the dream and aspirations of Qataris and other nations in the region.
The obstacles which made the International Olympic Committee to set aside the bid by Qatar for hosting the 2016 Olympic Games, would be carefully studies, and once these are removed, together on co-ordination with the executive office the International Olympic Committee, Qatar will again bid for hosting the Olympic Games in 2020, abiding by the set measures and standards, Sheikh Hamad noted.
