Tourism in Qatar needs improvement

In the opinion of the residents in Qatar, the tourism in the country is not up to the mark. This is as per the survey conducted by the Al Sharq daily.

While about 75 percent of respondents feel that the internal tourism in the country is not growing much, about 18 percent said that they are satisfied with the tourism in the country, while 7 percent remained neutral to the issue.

The country is not witnessing as much development in the tourism sector through the boom in residential complex and hotel. Even other infrastructural developments such as the Children's Park and water theme are very less. Theme parks such as Disney attract plenty of tourists to other countries in the region.

The authorities have done a good job with the zoo, but more such places are required to be opened. Although the hotel prices are reasonable, more such places need to be opened.

With increase in the country’s tourism, the current developments are drawing more and more people. The souq areas, for instance, were not so crowded just few years ago. Qatar needs to develop its coastal belt, which many countries do not possess. This needs to be exploited in a useful manner.

Even historical sites are mostly neglected. These places should be given special emphasis. The traffic in the city too should be brought under control, as it would bear a heavy impact on tourism.
