Dukhan Highway Road project nearing completion
The work on Dukhan Highway Road, which forms a part of Public Works Authority another major project, is nearing completion. The project, which is one of the major components of Ashghal, is a multi-billion dollar Five Year Plan.
Beginning from the Thani bin Jasem interchange, the highway spreads across the Zekrit Interchange near Dukhan Industrial Area, and is intended to reduce traffic congestion between Doha and Western Qatar.
Ashghal has also upgraded the existing roads, apart from including new roads with many interchanges and tunnels, as a part of establishing modern road network inline with international standards.
Covering, Zekrit, Shahaniya, Jamilliyya and other towns in the Western Zone of Qatar, the road project is marked by specially developed tunnels for safe crossing of camels and other animals at different stretches of the road.
The East Shahaniyya-Zekrit stretch would be the last phase of the project. The construction work on the 42kms stretch is progressing quickly. The stretch includes construction of four-track dual carriageway, in place of the existing single-track dual carriageway. The stretch also includes bridges, underpasses, underground utility pipelines and four interchanges.
According to Ashghal officials, the delay in completion of the project is due to the presence of ground water, need for micro tunneling, and the passage of Rawdat-al-Fars.
