Hotel Rydges Plaza shuts down

After its wonderful service spanning six years, the Rydges Plaza Doha, has shut down to guests.

The hotel is said to have stopped receiving guests from this month, and about 100 employees are waiting for release from their sponsor, the sources close to the company revealed.

“The hotel shut down on 1st December. We are hunting for fresh jobs. We hope the management will give release letters to all of us. Many of us who worked in Rydges have received offers from other hotels,” a former employee who spoke to the media, said.

Located in proximity to the Al Bida and Emiri Diwan area, overlooking the Doha Bay and Corniche, the hotel had been opened amidst speculation that it may not be permitted to operate due to its “sensitive” location.

Operated by Australian Rydges Group, the hotel was a perfect location for the discerning visitor. It offered several shops and cafés. A unique aspect of the hotel was its floor-to-ceiling windows which further emphasizes the beautiful views provided. It included other amenities such as swimming pool and health clubs that are of use to visitors.

The Rydges, which overlooks the turquoise Arabian Gulf waters, was launched in 2002. The wonderful 11-storey four-star hotel which was highly patronized by the middle and senior-level executives and businessmen will soon be history.
