Museum of Islamic Art bags award

The Museum of Islamic Art in Doha has been awarded the Overall Project of the Year during the second Annual Middle East Architect Awards.

The Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) was presented with the award for the Museum of Islamic Art, Doha, during a ceremony hosted by the Middle East Architect Magazine.

The Museum of Islamic Art was chosen as the best for its traditional designing principles, using indigenous materials, integrating them with modern technology, to create familiar, functional and environmentally sustainable architecture.

Organized by ITP Business Publishing, the awards ceremony took place at Westin Dubai, in the presence of more than 200 leading professionals from the region’s architecture industry, which included architects, service providers, developers, building owners and contractors.

Ten awards have been presented at the ceremony in categories covering several fields, from infrastructure to mixed-use developments of the year, and from leading engineering firm of the year to architect of the year.

The winners were judged by a panel of experts, comprising industry-leading academics, architects and engineers from around the Middle East.

The annual ceremony is one of the most prestigious events meant to recognize outstanding architectural projects in the region. The event is set out to raise the industry profile and reward those who made significant contributions to its development.
