Karwa City first phase on schedule

The first phase of Karwa City, currently under construction in Mesaimeer, will be ready during the first quarter of 2010, it has been announced.

The Business Development Director at Mowasalat, Ahmed al-Ansari, agreed that work is going on at a fast pace and the city’s first phase will be fully commissioned on schedule.

The city is one of the biggest facilities of its kind in the region, spread out in an area of approximately 29 square kilometers.

The company operates 1271 buses for Qatar schools at present. The Higher Education Council has sought additional requirements for students and another 200 buses will be included during the coming months, Ansari said.

According to Al-Ansari, the fleet strength of the company has gone up to 260 at present and is operating at least 200 buses on a daily basis.

Atleast 300 delegates representing various transport companies, vehicle manufacturers, regulatory authorities and government departments, and local civic bodies and planning forums in the region will participate in the three-day UITP (International Association of Public Transport) 2nd Middle East and North Africa Congress, starting in Doha on 25th October.
