Qatar Energy City to be completed by 2012
Energy City Qatar has signed a deal with Qtel, wherein the latter would operate world-scale data center of Energy City at its Lusail development for 16 years.
As per the terms of agreement, Energy City Qatar will offer advanced data communications services and solutions in the region, together with Qtel. The Energy City Qatar will build the data center and Qtel will offer complete support to operate the facility and extend its services to regional, local and international energy companies, who are tenants at the Lusail development.
The data center is hoped to get functional by 2012. Qtel will offer 24x7 services to Energy City Qatar for its proposed Internet Data Center and Network Operations Center at Lusail.
Being built across 1.2sq.kms of land, the $2.6bn integrated energy center will be home to global and regional energy companies on completion. The agreement was signed by Qtel Group CEO, Dr. Nasser Marafih and Energy City Qatar CEO, Hesham Ismail Al-Emadi.
Basic infrastructure works at the multibillion dollar Energy City Qatar, the first oil and gas industry hub in the Gulf, will be ready by year-end, Emadi said.
About 54 developers are planning to start construction at their respective sites this year. Majority of them are working on their concept design. The tenants are likely to occupy by the place by 2012, by which time, the Energy City Qatar will be completely functional, Al-Emadi said.
Being part of the major new city development at Lusail, Energy City Qatar, in addition to major business and entertainment districts, will be home to 200,000 people.
Launched by Gulf Energy, Energy City Qatar will attract prominent leaders in oil and gas production, international and national oil companies, infrastructure and downstream activities, support services, shipping and trading, market and resource data, and intellectual property.
