Labour Ministry to look into work visa grievances

The Ministry of Labour expressed its readiness to address the woes of private companies pertaining to work visas and nationality quotas, provided, they route their grievances through the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI), the representative body of the private sector.

The private sector has been complaining that several companies are not allowed to recruit the number of workers they actually require, due to nationality quotas, which prevent them from bringing in workers from those particular countries.


During a co-ordination meeting held at the QCCI premises, the officials from Labour Department and QCCI discussed the matter, including several other issued faced by private firms.


The officials at the QCCI complained that while few companies took up the initiative to recruit professionals who incur high costs, it is unfair on the part of the competitors to woo them by offering higher emoluments.


Speaking to QCCI representatives, the labour officials said that Labor law protected their interests, as it sought to safeguard the rights of both employers and employees.


The Labour Ministry revealed that companies with visa and nationality quota related grievances are free to contact the Ministry through QCCI to redress their woes.
