Experts warn against shifting of workers outside Doha

Moving single workers to localities outside Doha City, in accordance with the recent law, could spark a hike in rentals, leaving several residents in a pathetic state, warn experts.

The experts have urged the authorities to find alternative solutions to accommodation of single workers in the city, before implementation of the law.


The experts pointed out that Doha is already facing shortage of residential space, and catering to single workers with sudden implementation of the law, could actually worsen the situation.


Several residents have however, expressed fear that they would find it difficult to relocate, if they are compelled to move out from their existing accommodations.


Most of the workplaces, being locate within the city the workers would face problems with commutation, as most of these single workers are not provided with transportation or accommodation by their employers.


The decision, if implemented, may lead to fall in rentals, inside the city, although there will be an increase in rents outside Doha.


A real estate agent, when responding to a survey by Al Sharq, agrees that already the rentals outside the city are showing an upward trend.


A leading businessman, Abdul Hadi Al Shahwani, commended the law, stating that the companies should be made responsible in finding new accommodation for their workers.
