SCH likely to cut salaries of expat employees by 10 to 50 percent
The Supreme Council of Health (SCH), the regulatory body for healthcare sector, plans to cut down the remunerations of its non-Qatari employees by 10 to 50 percent when their job contracts expire.
Such a move forms a part of the massive overhaul of the Council which is to be completed by end of June. Expatriate employees had entered into contracts for duration of one to three years.
The Council now plans to sign new job contracts as per the restructuring of the Council. The expatriates had signed their present job contracts during the existence of National Health Authorty and therefore, had drawn high salaries. The allowances given to expatriates are on par with their Qatari counterparts at present.
Thereafter, all government authorities have been re-structured. The Administrative and Financial Director of the Council, Mariam Al Emadi, said that the regulatory body had already laid-off 720 workers, several of them being expatriates.
Among those laid off, also include 160 nationals, and they are being paid salaries, despite sitting at home. However, this privilege is only for the retrenched Qatari staff which would continue until the general secretariat of the Cabinet takes a decision in this regard.
The Council currently has a total of 1280 employees, out of which 508 are expatriates.
When new contracts are signed with non-Qatari employees, it is likely that several of these retrenched Qatar workers may get back their jobs. An official in the Council already agreed that about 15 Qataris have been taken back to work.
Moreover, about 100 expatriates have been laid off and replaced with nationals to meet the job nationalisation policy in Qatar, the official said.
