Qatar all set to emerge as popular tourist destination

Qatar is all set to emerge as a popular tourist destination, with the efforts by the government to place the country on the map, said an expert in the hotel industry.

The Global officer of worldwide operations for Ritz-Carlton, Bob Kharazmi, predicted that the economic growth in Qatar is an indication of the potential in local and regional markets. The market in Qatar is very strong, and there is no-doubt that the government’s economic predictions would come true.

The number of four and five-star hotels is likely to open over the next year, indicates the strong market growth here. Further the new international airport and the incredible access of Qatar Airways across the world, indicates that the forthcoming hotels will be absorbed by increased demand.

Currently, Ritz Carlton operates two properties in Qatar – the Ritz Carlton Doha and the Al Sharq Village and Spa. Ritz Carlton has identified the Middle East and Gulf as a major potential market. A second property in Dubai will also be offered during the fourth quarter of the year, apart from one in Abu Dhabi and three each in Oman and Egypt.

Kharazmi also said that if Qatar gets successful in its bid to host the World Cup 2022, the hotels in the country would receive a boost and would enjoy good business before, during and after the tournament, and even the economy in Qatar would benefit a great deal,
The government is making all possible efforts to make Qatar a leisure destination. With attractions such as Souq Waqif, the Museum of Islamic Art and other cultural and sporting events, Qatar is on its way to develop a leisure market in support of its strong commercial business, he concluded.
