Qatar accelerates visa issuance procedures

Visa issuance procedures in Qatar have been accelerated to meet growing demand of foreign labourers, who are required to work on booming infrastructure projects planned in Qatar over the coming years.

Approval for work visa requests for one to five labourers, applied online, will be done within 24 hours, agreed Nasir Mehanna Al Mirri, Head of Labour Department.

Projects requiring visas for just 6 to 29 labourers will be approved quickly, but companies seeking visas for more than 30 labourers, will have to wait a little longer, as in such cases contract copy of the project is required, Al Mirri said.

He was speaking during a workshop organized by the Labour Ministry to introduce e-services for company representatives at the Ministry Headquarters.

The experts also answered several questions pertaining to e-services being presented by the Labour Ministry. The services such as call centres and e-services, launched by the Labour Ministry to solve labour-related issues are vital when there is huge influx of foreign labourers into the country for implementation of massive development projects.

Qatar is ready to seek foreign help, so as to avoid any shortage of labourers. The Cabinet recently approved two deals which permits hiring of labourers from Kenya, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
