Doha Trade Fair records good visitor numbers

The latest edition of the Doha Trade Fair was unveiled to public at the Doha Exhibition Centre yesterday.

Nearly 550 renowned exhibitors from 31 nations will be displaying the latest traditional products from across the globe during the nine-day fair, organized by the QCCI (Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry), and the Qatar Media Services (q,media).

The souq includes several hundred stalls displaying a range of goods for consumers, including ethnic wears, brassware, carpets, dry fruit, traditional sweets, glassware, leather goods, and utensils to name a few.

The organizers at the fair reported that they have already received nearly 22,000 visitors on the opening day. However, unlike the previous years, there has been a major drop in number of Chinese stalls, although there is an increase in participation from countries like Iran and Turkey.

There are several traders from Pakistan and India, offering ethnic wears, glassware, textiles and brassware. Meanwhile, stalls from Iran and Saudi Arabia are involved in sale of perfumes, while Qatar is doing a good job of selling readymade clothes and utensils. The Iranian carpet stalls too, have drawn considerable visitors so far.

The QCCI Vice Chairman, Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Touwar, Head of organizing internal exhibitions at QTA, pointed out that Qatar is the best place for doing business in the region. In future, Qatar will further grow as most-friendly destination in the region.

Another highlight of the event is the giant Monopoly game board at the Fun Zone, which is one of the largest-ever displayed. Moreover, the drum beaters, bugle-bowlers, and acrobats have all rendered a festive-touch to the ceremony.

The fair will remain open from 10am to 10pm daily, except on Friday, when the gates will open at 2pm in the afternoon.
