Unlicensed non-Qatar real estate brokers to be deported

Practising real estate brokerage without license is a crime that will be met with imprisonment and fine for citizens, and deportation for non-Qataris, a top official of the Ministry of Justice has said.

Khaled Hassan Al Mehshadi, the Director of the Real Estate Brokerage Department at the ministry said that as per the real estate brokerage law, the profession must be carried out in Qatar only after obtaining necessary licenses, according to Al Raya Arabic daily reports.

Qatar recently started training and licensing Qatari real estate brokers, with the first batch taking oath on October 25, 2020. Mehshadi said as many as 500 people have applied to obtain licenses. Several batches have successfully taken oath since then.

This step comes within the Ministry of Justice’s efforts to reorganise the real estate brokerage profession and to work per the provisions of Law No. 22 of 2017 to regulate real estate brokerage work to serve the national economy. It will also develop working mechanisms in the real estate market and qualify those who work in the mediation profession from the owners of offices and Qatari mediators.

The real estate brokerage law was prepared to keep pace with the aspirations of dealers in the real estate sector, and therefore it was taken into consideration the public interest, and conditions were set for the practice of the profession, the most important of which is that the broker is of Qatari nationality, has full eligibility, has good conduct, and passes training courses and tests that are set for the owners of the profession.
