Qatar Open Tennis Tournament

Qatar Open is one of the most popular tennis tournaments in the region. It plays a vital role in promoting tennis in Qatar. Qatar houses several popular tennis clubs including Al Saad, Al Arabi, Al Rayyan and Al Ahli Sports Clubs.

The first ATP Qatar Open was only for men, played in January 1993. Over the year, it grew in popularity, with several top tennis stars, including Boris Becker, Enquist, Pete Sampras, Marc Rosset, Nicolas Kiefer, and Fabrice Santoro, having played in Qatar.

Since 2001, Qatar also invited women participants to play in Qatar, and great women tennis players like Mary Pierce, Martina Hingis, Sandrine Testud, and Arantxa Sanchez Vicario have played matches here.

Qatar open attracts several visitors and players to the region, and helps in boosting tourism in the region. Earlier, there were just three local tournaments organized throughout the year, but now, numerous tournaments including those by private clubs are held on regular basis.
