Unemployment rate in Qatar is lowest in the region
Qatar is all set to achieve 50 percent Qatarization in the employment sector, and has put in its share of effort to reduce unemployment in the country, according to a report.
The unemployment rate in Qatar, as per the report, is only 0.09 percent, the lowest in the region, and soon, Qatar would emerge as a role model in removing unemployment in the Arabian Gulf.
Jobs in industrial and energy sectors, still, continue to appear lucrative to Qataris, and various training programmes are being organized to make national workforce to come on par with their foreign counterparts.
As per official figures, 73 percent of the jobs in public sectors are occupied by nationals, out of which about 78.6 percent are women employees.
However, Qataris prefer the public sector, than the private sector, due to comparatively high salaries, allowances and stability.
The report also indicates a significant drop in the number of men (Qataris) achieving higher education, which proves a major challenge in implementing Qatarization policy, which requires substitution of highly qualified foreign workforce with nationals.
The number of male students in schools and universities continue to be low, compared to number of females. Unemployment among highly qualified women continues to be high in all GCC countries, except UAE.
The main obstacle that Qatarization is facing today is the lack of skills and proper training in compliance to local labour market, says the report.
