Labour Ministry signs deal for employment of nationals in hospitality sector

The Qatari Labour Ministry, together with the National Workforce Department, will launch an initiative that offers potential opening to young Qatari nationals in hospitality industry.

To meet this initiative, the Labour Ministry has signed a three-year deal with Qatar National Hotel Company (QNHC), and affiliated five-star hotels, including Ritz-Carlton, Sheraton, Mariott and Sharq to offer hospitality industry education overseas to both male and female nationals.

The Director of National Workforce Department, Faisal Al Emadi, said that the ministry has so far received a total of 139 applications, which have been handed over to QNHC. The list of applicants was sent to the four hotels, which conducted personal interviews to select the best candidates for hospitality industry courses.

The hotels are free to pick the university of their choice where they wish to admit the students. Several hotels, such as Mariott have their own universities for training the students.

The agreement states that the four hotels and the QNHC will have to choose the candidates for the proposed education overseas. On successful completion of education, the student will have to work at the hotel for a period equivalent to the duration of his studies.

After graduation, if the student fails to abide with this obligation, he will have to reimburse all the money spent on him for his education in the hospitality industry, said Al Emadi.

This new initiative is hoped to create several new openings for nationals in the labour market. The main focus of the agreement is to successfully enroll the applicants to various institutions that would educate them to obtain a hospitality industry bachelor.
