Snadala project to offer jobs, training prospects to women
A project, under the sponsorship of Social Development Center (SDC), will represent Qatari heritage, with the handcrafted art works by local women to be made available at all leading outlets in Qatar.
An official associated with the project, by name Sndala project, said that being a joint venture between the SDC and Gulf Crafts Company, the project aims to offer jobs and training opportunities for all individuals, particularly women, affiliated with SDC.
The locally produced trophies, souvenirs, and gift items will be made available at boutiques, five-star restaurants, upmarket stores, and Doha Airport’s Duty-Free. The items will be hand-made by local artistes, using materials such as metals, acrylic, crystal, and leather, including plaques, plates, shields, pins, medals, trophies and gift items. The items can be customized for special events held by companies, ministries, sports club or associations.
The General Manager of Gulf Crafts Company, Vicken Deyirmenjian, said that Snadala was established under partnership with SDC to support the growth and development of Qatari community, by creating jobs for women in private sector.
Sndala’s success offers employment and social security for women. According to Deyirmenjian, SDC recommends certain number of underprivileged women, majority of who are Qataris, said Harout Bedoyan, the Company’s Production Manager.
Harout revealed that women require handicraft skills to join the Sndala project and the Gulf Crafts Company would offer additional training to the skilled women.
Sndala project combines latest technologies, with inborn talents and acquired skills. Sndala has already hosted one exhibition ‘Made-in-Qatar’ and plans to open a new factory at the new Industrial Area, towards the end of the year.
At present, Sndala women are working on the “Qatarization” trophy, which would be in circulation for 10 years. Every year, the trophy would be granted to the organization recruiting highest number of Qataris.
