Qatar Career Fair 2009 kick-starts amidst high hopes

The Qatar Career Fair 2009 opened on Sunday amidst high expectations, as Heir Apparent H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani unveiled the five-day fair at the Doha International Exhibition Center.

The Exhibition Center witnessed lot of activities from young Qatari job aspirants, while the companies evaluated their resumes and made arrangements for spot interviews.

The Acting Director (Administration) of Qatar Petroleum (QP), Ahmad Ali al Mawlawi, said that about 40 percent of Qatari employees are from QP, due to the Qatarization strategy adopted by the company. This is because the company had offered jobs to 800 Qataris last year alone. QP also has one of the best career development programmes offered to Qatari nationals both inside Qatar and abroad.

The job-seekers are required to meet certain criteria to be permitted for working as a trainee or to pursue higher studies on QP’s scholarship, Al Mawlawi said.

The other participating companies in the event includes Qatar Gas, Qatar Water and Electricity Company, RasGas, Tasweeq, Qatar Foundation, Ministry of Labour, Qatar National Bank, Supreme Education Council, Qatar Academy, Islamic Bank of Qatar, Weill Cornell Medical College and training packages and job opportunities for both secondary school pass-outs and graduates.
