Silatech signs partnership deal to focus on youth job initiative

Silatech, the Wolfensohn Center for Development at Brookings, the Dubai School of Government, and the Issam Fares Institute at American University have entered into a new partnership Taqeem, in order to take up promotion of impact of evaluation across the Middle East, and in areas of employment and entrepreneurship. The programme will be officially launched at Silatech Doha Summit tomorrow.

Taking into account the youth employment challenge in the MENA region, during the coming two decades, it is important to invest in ideas and solutions that have proven results and solid data, said Rick Little, the CEO of Silatech.

Taqeem has the potential to make a great contribution under the current market conditions. Located within the Middle East Youth Initiative, Taqeem will focus on impact evaluation to generate new solutions to youth challenges, by clubbing together sound knowledge, smart investment and effective policy.

Taqeem will offer the expertise to evaluate programmes or policies that are in their early stages of design, and facilitate mid-course corrections required to ensure sustained effectiveness, said Tarik Yousef, Dean of Dubai School of Government and Non-resident Senior Fellow at Brookings.

By streamlining benchmarking efforts, Taqeem will bring in best practices for policymakers, private sector stakeholders and the civil society. It will form a network of evaluators to strengthen local capacity in the region and to promote integration of impact evaluation in pilot projects.

Taqeem is the right platform for greater learning within the region, and in the global market, through more effective south-to-south knowledge exchange.
