80 percent of expatriates happily employed in Qatar

More than 80 percent of expatriate employees in Qatar expressed happiness about their stay in Qatar, according to jobs and employment survey released in Qatar this week.

Commissioned by qatarvisitor.com, a tourist and residents’ website, and community portal iloveqatar.net (ILQ), the survey aims to analyze the experience of people about their jobs and how work has transformed their lives.

When questioned about why people had chosen to move to Qatar, nearly half of the respondents said that money has been the main motivating factor, while for 28.1 percent of respondents sought work in Qatar to experience a new culture.

While 87.6 percent employees expressed their satisfaction over having entered Qatar, more than 30 percent said they found employment via the internet. About 16.1 percent of employees landed in their jobs via job sites, 7.2 percent through jobs advertised directly on employers’ websites and 7.2 percent by uploading their resumes onto company’s websites. A further 16.6 percent found jobs through recruitment agencies. About a quarter of those who found work in Qatar through agencies, claim that they have been illegally charged by the head-hunters.

About 57.2 percent of respondents possessed a graduate or post-graduate qualification, while only 1.8 percent of respondents claimed they had no qualification at all.

Yet another finding in the survey revealed that majority of employees in Qatar experienced sharp increase in their salaries going up from 13.7 percent to 25.7 percent.

“We hope the results of this survey will help our users with an idea of how to look for work in Qatar and the probability of finding work and also what to expect when they get here,” said Philip Beech, Editor of Qatar Visitor.

Even the ILQ official Khalifa Saleh said that the results clearly indicate an increased usage of online portals by jobseekers looking foe employment in the Middle East. It is no-doubt going to increase in popularity in future. The results also indicate a greater need for regulation of employment agencies.
