Hiring prospects in Qatar gloomy during the next few months

Employers in Qatar were less enthusiastic about hiring during the next few months, in comparison to their regional counterparts, a recent regional survey has revealed.

The survey, conducted by YouGovSiraj, together with Bayt.com, revealed that more than half of the employers in the region (56 percent) plan to recruit in the next few months. However, in Qatar, only 19 percent of the respondent agreed that their firms will be hiring in next three months. This was the lowest figure in the Gulf among the surveyed countries.

In Qatar more than 40 percent said they were unsure about hiring, while 9 percent of respondents agreed that their organizations may probably or definitely be hiring in the next quarter.

As for the rest of MENA region, the prospect of hiring varied from one organization to another or from one country to another. Organizations in Oman, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, all showed interest to hire, with 36percent, 35 percent and 32 percent stating that their organizations will definitely be hiring during the coming quarter.

Just as is the case with previous wave, even during the coming quarter, junior executives will be most sought after in the job market. About 38percent of those surveyed agreed that they plan to recruit staff at junior executive level, followed by 32percent seeking to hire at executive level.

When questioned about how they rate their country of residence as a job market, in comparison to the rest of the region, respondents in the UAE (47%), Saudi Arabia (46%) and Qatar (38%) responded in the most positive manner about their country, claiming it to be more attractive than others.
