Qatar to review foreign recruitment plan

There is likely to be a huge demand for foreign workers, particularly labourers in the construction sector, with Qatar, getting ready to host the 2022 World Cup finals. In view of this, Qatar plans to review its foreign recruitment policy, so as to adapt to new requirements, a local daily reported.

The labour ministry has already contacted public sector companies about their recruitment plans and other such programmes in the next five years. This initiative aims to help the Ministry in assessing the overall needs of the country ahead of the World Cup, the sources said.

Doha pledged to build new football stadiums, including air-conditioned island stadium with a capacity to accommodate 86,000 spectators, and renovate existing ones as part of the 2022 Fifa World Cup bid.

The major construction work will require thousands of labourers to be recruited from several Asian nations.
