Labour Ministry ready to accommodate increased expat worker influx
The Labour Ministry is ready to handle the expected influx of expatriates required for working on the infrastructure projects required as part of implementation of World Cup 2022 hosting, revealed a senior official.
The Labour Ministry Undersecretary, Hussein Al-Mulla, mentioned that the newly introduced departments within the ministry, including the Recruitment departments, Labour Relationship and Inspection can help the Ministry in handling the increase in expatriate workforce.
Al-Mulla further mentioned that the recent re-structuring of his ministry had helped in stabilizing the relationship between workers and employers.
The new departments, along with re-structuring of the Ministry, has helped in taking control of the market and strictly adhere to the labour law, apart from related ministerial decisions.
As for the new procedures, the Minister said that each company will have to submit a recent three-month payroll for its workers, along with the undertaking by the main contractor to maintain the worker rights. Further, a report on condition of labour accommodation will have to be submitted for any recruitment application by the companies.
Several companies have already begun searching for suitable accommodation for workers before submitting their application. Due to such efforts there are lesser number of complaints about payment delays, he pointed out.
