New procedure for recruitment of expat manpower worked out

The Joint Committee of ministries of labour and interior, following a meeting with representatives of recruitment firms, announced the new procedure for recruitment of expat manpower in Qatar yesterday. Recruitment firms in Qatar have been grouped into A, B, and C groups, based on the 17 points or principles of operation, decided upon, sometime ago.


The Deputy Director of Passport and Immigration, Brig. Mohamed Ahmed al-Ateeq, who addressed the meeting, said that a trial period of six months will be granted to all recruitment firms, to decide about the extent to which they can abide by the principles of operation. Later, they will be divided into one of the three categories.


Recruitment from few new countries, are also being considered. All this is being done, to streamline procedures, remove hassles if any, and facilitate matters, he said.


The Acting Head of recruitment cell at the Labour Ministry, Fares Mohamed al-Kaby, said that the firms that can provide direct access between the interested party in Qatar, and the international firm offering various categories of manpower, will come under the category A.


Similar preference will be offered to firms that offer minimum possible charges. Qatar has a total of 193 recruitment firms at present.
