Qatar committed to women empowerment by 2030

Member of the Arab Parliament and the Shura Council in Qatar, HE Dr. Aisha bint Youssef Al Mannai emphasized on Qatar’s commitment to ensuring that women play an active role in development. She emphasized that Qatar National Vision 2030 supports empowerment of women in all fields.

Speaking during a talk organized by the Qatari Forum for Authors, which forms part of an initiative to throw light on women leaders in the country, she highlighted the appointment of four women in the Shura Council. She said that Qatar is working towards promoting democratic practices by holding Municipal council elections and Shura Council elections in the future.

While appreciating the role of several women who occupied lead positions in the state, she also said that the main factor for choosing any leadership position is merit.

Al Mannai also discussed her educational journey which began in Al Kharaitiyat Primary School to completion of a Master’s and PhD from Al Azhar University. She began teaching at Qatar University at College of Sharia and went on to become a dean, thereafter heading the Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani Centre for Muslim Contribution to Civilization.
