The master plans, prepared by the Urban Planning and Development Authority (UPDA), together with Surbana Urban Planning Group of Singapore, proposes complete makeover of the two cities.

The master plans with pictures and 3-D images have been displayed to the public by UPDA through various exhibitions held at different locations. One such recent exhibition was the one held at Doha Exhibitions Center since 15th May. The fair is said to have been drawing huge number of visitors.

The UPDA Director of Projects, Abdulrahman Jabir Sorour, says “We have been successful in drawing the attention of public and the government, apart from the agencies interested in investing. Ample information regarding the salient features of the project and immense benefits of the same after completion have already been made known to the public.”

The plan offers a climate-controlled underground boulevard, gardens and heritage landmarks, waterfront, recreation, and several other attractions. According to the plan, the cities are likely to be used for the next 25 years or more.

The master plan predicts a population of 600,000 for Wakrah by 2032 and about 170,000 for Al-Khor. As revealed by UPDA officials, the master plans of the cities depict spectacular future for the areas.

The comprehensive projects include a completely unique infrastructure projecting urbanization. It provides a balanced development, which can handle the increase in population over the years and tackle issues such as traffic congestion with ease.

Work on certain portions of the project, such as the Waterfront at Wakrah and Al-Khor has already begun and will be complete in one or two years. However, the entire project will take about 25 years for completion.

UPDA revealed that there has been a steady inflow of visitors, particularly during the last three days.

The exhibition is open between 9am and 1pm and from 4.30pm to 9pm.
