Barwa Housing Programme - Phase one units to be delivered by end of 2008

About 122 families belonging to the middle-income sector in Qatar, who have been considered eligible as per the terms and conditions of Barwa Real Estate for allotment of apartments, will be handed over their houses by the end of this year, revealed Barwa. The residential units are undergoing their final touches before the handover, confirmed a source at Barwa.

All non-Qatari families, who have successfully qualified during the preliminary selection process, are in the process of getting their documents verified, and the names of eligible applicants are expected to be announced shortly.

The preliminary selection process had made it mandatory that only those applicants whose salaries were less than QR 16,000 will be permitted to apply for the houses, and a number of applicants faced rejection due to non-compliance.

Few other conditions such as non-ownership of a private housing, capability to pay monthly rental for a home, and ability to meet the cost of leading a dignified life, were also taken into consideration before acceptance of applications.

The Barwa selection committee had also requested other vital information such as bank account details, documents regarding ownership of shares and other associated residential and commercial registration papers from Doha Financial Services Market.

Out of 632 Qatari families who applied for the housing programme, 469 were chosen for the first phase and considered eligible. However, out of these, few application documents were incomplete, few didn’t meet the application conditions, and had been rejected. Among the selected 122 Qatari families for the Barwa Housing Programme, 106 were married, 12 divorced, 4 widows, 10 with evacuation order, and 48 living in a common accommodation.

Barwa has confirmed that the successful applicants will be called and informed personally about the acceptance of their programme. According to sources, Qatari families under the middle-income cadre are free to apply for the Barwa Housing Programme till 26th June. Applicants can apply online at the company website and get informed about all the required documents to present during the personal interview on 26th June. The interview will be held only for those meeting the terms and conditions of the programme.

Barwa has confirmed that families from various communities would be chosen for the housing programme, so that there will be no biases based on nationality or such other factors.

The Barwa Housing Programme will have a total of 62 buildings, built in two separate plots at West Sailya and South Doha. 31 buildings will be allotted for each plot. Seventeen buildings will have three-bedrooms, while the rest fourteen will be double bedroom units.

Each building will have 32 apartments, which totals up to 2000 houses per site. The ground floor space of each building has been dedicated for the disabled. The entire project will have several amenities for relaxation, including playground for children, green areas, swimming pool, gymnasium, clubhouse, game rooms, multi-purpose hall, tennis court, basketball court, nursery school, mosque, large supermarkets and retail shops.

The project is likely to be complete by the end of the year.
