Rent dispute panel at Rayyan Municipality, yet to get operational
The Committees meant for solving rental disputes, although have been established it will take some time before they actually begin to accept cases, as the rent law is a relatively new one, revealed official at the Rayyan Municipality yesterday.
The Rayyan Municipality, being the second most populous after Doha, also does not have a dispute solution committee. The new rental regulation, effective 15th February 2008, makes it mandatory that committees should be established in all municipalities.
A report by Gulf Times on Monday, mentioned that the rent dispute committee in Doha Municipality will get operational in October. The law requires setting up of a three-member panel with judicial powers, within three months from 15th February.
Although, a new villa near Muathir Roundabout in Rayyan, has been functioning as 'office for Registration of Rental Contracts', the officials are not aware about when exactly a Committee for solving rental disputes will come into force.
One of the officials there agreed that there is no active committee as of now, and people will have to visit the court near Hamad Hospital for any complaints.
The official said that the pre-requisite for hearing of a rental dispute by the Committee, is a contract, which is registered with us. It may take a while, by the time these get into disputes and are brought to the attention of the office.
The Rayyan office manages registration of rental contracts of residential apartments, villas and commercial outlets. The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, HE Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Khalifa Al-Thani, in April, said that panels were expected to begin operations by mid-May.
