Barwa unveils QR35bn Urjuan iconic development at Al Khor

Barwa Al Khor, a subsidiary of Barwa Real Estate, announced launch of their flagship project, the QR35bn Urjuan at Al Khor.

The 5.5mn square meter integrated city development, located along the Al Khor Corniche, will have the capability to accommodate about 63,000 residents. The Phase one of the constructions will commence early next year, and the actual construction will begin in February 2009 and will be complete by 2013.

Designed by Cansult Maunsell of Canada, the development has been so named, as it is a city that represents Qatar’s rapid economic progress and its endeavors to preserve cultural heritage. The name is drawn after an ancient, valuable dye-like substance from which the ‘royal purple’ colour is derived, and is native to the Al Khor area.

The Chairman and Managing Director of Barwa, Ghanem bin Saad Al Saad, who spoke during a news conference, expressed confidence about the marketability of the iconic project and said that the company expects fast-track sales of the units following the official launch.

The project, owned by Barwa Al Khor (joint venture between Barwa Real Estate and Alimtiaz Investment of Kuwait), will be sold phase by phase offering residential and commercial options and properties to customers.

The buildings are strategically positioned to offer majestic views of the marinas and Arabian Gulf that dominates the shores of the development.

The iconic development will comprise 24,500 housing units, a beachfront luxury hotel and resort featuring terraced townhouses, private chalets and luxury apartments. Shopping malls, leisure amenities, open gardens and other tourist attractions such as 18-hole specialty golf course, a business hotel and private villa golf estate, will all form a part of the development.

Being another major landmark development in Qatar, the ‘Urjuan’ project places the area on the map of most ideal destinations for mega projects in the Middle East, said Eng. Youssef Al Hammadi.

The location of the project, Al Khor, depicts an old city charm that blends well with the ongoing massive developments, without compromising on identity. The unique environment of the area would be further preserved by this project of Barwa, which unites residents from various cultural backgrounds under a single community.

Al Khor is hoped to be the upcoming hotspot for businesses and residence in Qatar. Currently the area is witnessing major constructions as a part of the ‘Qatar 2025’ plans established by the Urban Planning and Development Authority.
