Barwa Village project at Al Wakra due for hand-over by 2010
Barwa Real Estate Company has confirmed that the QR1.5bn Barwa Village Project at Al Wakra in Qatar is progressing as scheduled, and the units will be ready for hand-over by the first quarter of 2010.
The company emphasized that tenants who have been occupying the units scheduled for redevelopment in phase one of the Heart of Doha project at the Mohamed bin Jassim – Mousherib area, will be given priority for allotment of units at the Barwa Village.
Launched in November 2008, the Barwa Village project comprises residential and commercial units, with a capacity to accommodate 13,000 residents. Being one of the major projects in Qatar, the 40,000 square metres Barwa Village offers innovative residential and commercial solutions outside the city of Doha to meet the demands of citizens and expatriate communities.
Barwa Village project is unique compared to several other projects in Qatar. Barwa gives priority to tenants occupying areas due for redevelopment such as the Mohamed bin Jassim Area (Phase 1) – Mousherib, and the removal stages will be announced shortly, said Ghanem bin Saad Al Saad, the company Chairman.
Details of Barwa Village beneficiaries will be specified at a later date, along with rental, distribution and transfer strategy, so as to meet the requirements of residents in areas meant for re-development. Later on, the Barwa Village will open tenancies for all, after the requirements of priority cases are fulfilled. The rents will be on par with the current market prices.
About 30 percent of the development comprises green space, meant for reducing carbon dioxide emissions. The project does not include high-rises, thereby reducing traffic congestion. The residential buildings will include only a ground floor, mezzanine and first floor.
The civil buildings such as schools, administration buildings, Mosques and nursery clubs will also comprise only ground and two floors. The shopping mall, however, will include ground floor in addition to three floors. Barwa Village will also cover basic amenities such as stores selling footwear, textiles, electronics, furniture, computers, jewellery and medicines.
