Lusail development holds The future of Qatar

The iconic waterfront development The Lusail Real Estate Development Company is underway in north Doha, which is expected to be bigger than Beirut on completion, and can accommodate about half-a-million population.

Considered to be “The future of Qatar”, the CEO, Mohammed bin Ali al-Hedfa has said it is on schedule to meet the hopes and aspirations of the nation. Covering an area of 35 square kilometer, the Lusail development’s first phase will be complete in 2011.

The waterfront in Lusail spreading 28kms, will be seven times longer than that of Monaco, which has a shoreline of just 4.1km, the company said in their first issue of Lusail Newsletter.

Out of the 455,000 population in Lusail, 200,000 will be residents living in its 25,000 residential units, while 165,000 will work at several districts, and 90,000 will be visitors to various recreation amenities.

According to Al-Hedfa, the vision and progress of Lusail, has drawn attention from all over the world. With its 17 mixed-use districts, the city boasts its own Light Rail Transit (LRT) network, one of the most advanced in the Middle East. LRT will operate on four lines across 32 passenger stations, and beyond Lusail to the New Doha International Airport through the proposed Qatar Railway system.

The preliminary design of the project has been already completed. Apart from the LRT, the Lusail highway and the marina bridges, the city will have additional access points with the Al Khor Highway on the western boundaries and water taxis serving the districts on the eastern end.

Qatari Diar, the owner of the project and the master developer, has appointed Qatari Diar Vinci Construction (QDVC) in February to excavate the tunnels for LRT.

About 70 percent of Lusail land has already been sold, while early access has been granted to developers in its various sections like Energy City.

Fox Hills and Marina District will facilitate the initial development of infrastructure and buildings. Lusail will help in promoting Qatar on several frontiers, states the first newsletter from the Company.
