Third edition of Aspire International Kite Festival kick-starts

The third edition of Aspire International Kite Festival was unveiled yesterday wat the Aspire Park, involving the participation of professional kite flyers from 18 nations.

Thousands of people, including women and children gathered at the venue to enjoy the festival. More than 40,000 visitors and 500 students are expected at the four-day festival.

Thousands of people including women and children gathered at the venue afternoon to enjoy the festival. Over 40,000 visitors and 500 students are expected to visit the four-day festival. 

To attract visitors various sites were set at the venue, including a weather dome for workshops and student activities, wind garden with custom-made decorations, areas for parade and entertainment, food trucks and kite shop.

A member of Aspire third international Kite Festival Organizing Committee, Tahani Al Suwaidi, said that first time lit kites portraying contemporary designs from the East and West are participating in the festival. The festival is being organized in two shifts, the morning shift for school students and evening for general public.

The Aspire Zone Foundation received 200 students yesterday from government and private schools to the third edition of the festival, wherein they attended kite-making workshops. A wide array of competitions is also organized with four award categories for students.

The Secretary of the International ASEAN Kite Council, Gadis Widiyati, delivered the workshops and training sessions. They aim to improve the interest in kit making and kite flying, among nationals in Qatar by leveraging the expertise and inspirational stories of kiting experts from the region and abroad.
