The 30th edition of Doha International Book Fair (DIBF) will be held from January 9 to 18, 2020.
Under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the new edition of DIBF will be held under the supervision and organisation of the Qatar Center for Cultural and Heritage Events. The date coincides with the launch of the cultural year Qatar-France 2020, which will give a greater chance for a significant presence of French participants in the fair and its diverse cultural presence.
The (DIBF) is one of the largest international book fairs in the region and enjoys great prestige witnessing public turnout from Arab and foreign countries. The number of visitors every time has been increasing since the launch of its first session in 1972. DIBF has been held every two years since 1972, and in 2002 was decided to be held every year and since then it has gained a great international position, especially managing to attract the largest and most important publishing houses in the world.
The exhibition will last for 10 days, same as the previous versions, to give exhibitors a great opportunity to experience a distinctive cultural experience and to allow publishers to showcase their diverse publications, especially new ones.
The Doha International Book Fair is one of the most important platforms of direct communication between authors, publishers, and intellectuals for learning about what is new in the field of the knowledge industry, as well as reflecting the state of the cultural landscape in the country.
According to the Ministry of Culture and Sports, this edition of the DIBF will be different from the previous editions and distinguished due to the expected wide participation of Arab and foreign publishing houses. In addition to the diverse range of books, cognitive media, and e-books, the event will host various workshops and seminars that will enrich the cultural movement accompanying the exhibition.
There will be 335 publishing houses participating in the event from both Arab and foreign countries besides some children's books. The pavilions booked at the fair amounted to 797 pavilions, in addition to a number of embassies of countries including the USA, Japan, Palestine, Kyrgyzstan, Philippines and Syria , who have booked their stalls. The exhibition will be held from 9am until 9pm, except for Friday from 3 pm until 10 pm, while on Thursday it will be held from 9 am to 10pm.
There are 31 countries participating in this edition of the Doha International Book Fair with the first time participation of Belgium and Australia, besides the guest of honour "France".
The number of the pavilions for Arabic books is 559, representing 228 publishing houses, and the number of foreign pavilions is 91 representing 35 foreign publishing houses, while the number of publishing houses for children is 72.
