His Excellency Sultan bin Rashid Al-Khater, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, inaugurated the State of Qatar’s pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, taking place under the slogan: “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”.
The inauguration was attended by a number of dignitaries, officials, and elite businessmen and investors from different countries worldwide.
Traditional songs and dance by Qatari artists marked the unveiling of the Qatar pavilion to the general public on Friday as VVIPs and senior delegates did a maiden tour of the 960sqm site.
The curved structure of the pavilion that pays homage to Qatar’s coat of arms was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava.
The remarkable thing is that it was designed and built on an expedited timeline of just five months. The pavilion’s sharp, sweeping form makes reference to the coat of arms of Qatar. It features two crossed, curved swords, encompassing a dhow and an island with palm trees. The design aims to translate these cultural elements to capture movement, mobility, strength, and tradition.
In a statement on this occasion, H.E Mr. Al-Khater said that the pavilion, themed: ‘Qatar. The Future is Now’, was a distinguished platform for strengthening commercial, industrial, and investment cooperation relations with the various countries participating in the exhibition.
Buttressing such relations contribute to supporting the economic sectors that serve Qatar’s development trends, including the industry, trade, and tourism sectors.
H.E. Mr. Al-Khater visited GCC countries’ pavilions, during which he was briefed on their advantages and the most prominent services and projects previewed.
Qatar pavilion is located within the sustainability district at Expo 2020 and is adjacent to the Southwest concourse of the Sustainability District.
